Suspect Gets Amped...

12/21/2009

Suspect Studios announces the arrival of more new guitar amps to the studio collection. First up is a Voodoo Amps V-Plex 50 tube amp. Voodoo Amps got their start by hot-rodding amps for their customers, so they know a little about Marshall "Plexi" tone. This beauty, in a gorgeous high gloss wood cabinet, pretty much nails the early Van Halen "brown tone". Next up is a very used, err "Vintage",1974 Marshall JMP-100 Super Lead head. This amp, nicknamed Frankenstein because of its homemade plywood cabinet, has the glorious roar of the '70s - its a little sloppy and loose in the low end, but in a very musical way. And with Spinal Tap irony, it sounds the best with all the controls on "10" (really!). Next up is a mid '90s era Marshall JCM-900 head, and it is everything the JMP-100 is NOT; very tight bass and a very controlled crunch. It's classic LA  '90s metal tone; when the amp is fired up you immediately think of Ratt.

The studio has added a couple of small Fender tube combo amps as well, including a '65 Princeton Reverb Reissue (15 watts into a Jensen 10" speaker), as well as a Blues Deluxe Reissue (40 watts into a single 12" speaker), all in pursuit of the classic Fender tube mojo.

And for something completely different, the studio has just taken delivery of a new Bogner Uberschall head, one of the heaviest, darkest and most evil sounding (in a good way) of the current crop of metal amps. If you are playing in a dropped tuning and looking for a seriously heavy tone, this handbuilt monster is for you.

As always, if you have questions on these or any of the studio amps, please drop us a line.
